Luxembourg is a paradise for anglers, since its lakes and rivers are home to trout, pike, pike-perch, eel, carp and many other types of fish. ![]() You need a fishing permit issued by one of the District Commissariats in Diekirch, Grevenmacher or Luxembourg, and by local authorities in Bavigne, Boulaide, Bourscheid, Clervaux, Esch-sur-Sûre, Ettelbruck, Neunhausen, Rambrouch, Vianden en Wiltz (or available at some tourist offices or hotels). On inland rivers, a permit is required for fishing from the bank, an annual permit costs 18 €, a monthly permit costs 3 €. For fishing from a boat, an annual permit costs 23 € while the monthly version costs 4 €. On the Sûre, fishing is allowed in the protection zone II of the Upper-Sûre lake and between the confluence with the Alzette in Ettelbruck and the confluence with the Our in Wallendorf. In the fish-breeding grounds between the weir in Moestroff and the bridge in Reisdorf, fishing is prohibited. For angling in private waters, written permission must be obtained from the landowner concerned, an annual permit (12 €) or a monthly permit (2 €) is required.
In the rivers bordering Germany, i.e. the Moselle, Sûre and Our, a permit is also required. Fishing from the bank costs 15 € per year, 10 € per month or 5 € per week. For fishing from a boat, an annual permit costs 40 €, a monthly one 25 € and a weekly one 10 €. In addition, when fishing on the Our, a written permission from the owner of the bank is required. For angling on the Vianden reservoir (from April 1 to September 30), an annual permit is available.
Special fishponds, where angling is allowed without any formalities except payment of a fee, are to be found in Boulaide, Clemency, Clervaux/Reuler, Erpeldange/Ettelbruck, Fischbach/Mersch, Lamadeleine, Kockelscheuer, Olingen, Pétange, Pratz, Redange/Attert and Remerschen. The same conditions will be found at the lakes of Echternach and Weiswampach and on the Gander in Mondorf-les-Bains.
