Photo collection "The Family of Man"


Closed in 2011 because of renovation works.

"The Family of Man" - The biggest photographic exhibition of all time was created by Edward Steichen (American photographer and curator with Luxembourgish origins) and opened in 1955 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (Moma). This major exhibition wants to encourage through the use of the universal language of photography, the understanding between the people. Among 4 million entries, Steichen chose 503 photographs of 273 artists and amateur photographers coming from 68 countries. Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Dorothea Lange, Robert Doisneau, August Sander, ... All together they compose THE FAMILY OF MAN.

The exhibition is divided into 37 subjects, about love, belief in humanity, birth, work, family, war and peace ... presented in an impressive composition. The exhibition was a tremendous success, and has traveled the world in the 50s and 60s. Since 1994, THE FAMILY OF MAN exhibition can be seen permanently in the Castle in Clervaux and was taken in the UNESCO memory of the world program.

Exhibition of Models of Ancient Castles


Open from 1.3 to 30.4 and from 1.10 to 31.12 on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 11 AM to 6 PM. From 1.5 to 30.9 from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM (closed on Monday, except public holiday).

All-inclusive fees for the exhibition models of ancient Luxembourg castles and Battle of the Bulge Museum: 0,50 - 2,50 €.

Benedictine Abbey (1910, Cluny style)


Church and exhibition 'The Monastical Life' open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Gregorian masses and vespers at 10.30 a.m. and at 6 p.m., on Saturday and on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Welcome to a spiritual retreat (men 20 rooms in the abbey, women in mixed groups in lodgings). Shop selling sacred art and souvenir library.

Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes

Exhibited are uniforms and weapons that were used during this battle.

On the 9th September 1944 the American troops liberated Pétange, on September 10th the capital Luxembourg and finally the entire country. On the 16th December Hitler tried with a new attack on the Luxembourg Ardennes, to achieve the port of Antwerp, but the resistance of the American troops led to the huge battle of the Ardennes. On February 12th, Luxembourg finally became a free country again.
