National Museum of History and Art, archeological section. The museum has a large archaeological collection, particularly of objects discovered during the various excavations: sarcophaguses, tools, coins, jewels, grave markers, etc. the most outstanding objects being found in the excavations at Dalheim (Ricciacus) and Titelberg.
The visual arts section of this museum in the capital offers the possibility of admiring a wide range of Luxembourgish painting from the 18th to the 20th century, including the post-impressionist watercolours of Sosthène Weis, paintings by Joseph Kutter, Dominique Lang, Eugène Mousset, Jean-Pierre Beckius, Nico Klopp and Auguste Trémont as well as sculptures by Auguste Trémont and Lucien Wercollier. While the museum also houses ancient sculptures and paintings (including a Charity attributed to Cranach), it also has a collection of contemporary art of undeniable originality. Luxembourg artists are shown alongside foreign artists (Alechinsky, Bazaine, Beau-din, Bissière, Borès, Estève, Etienne-Martin, Lansky, Lobo, Lurçat, Maillol, Manessier, Pignon, Poliakoff, Villon, etc).
The Luxembourg City History Museum, set in the heart of the old town, the Luxembourg City Museum of History provides an original illustration of the capital’s history dating back over a thousand years. Visitors will discover more than a thousand items displayed over six storeys, further enhanced by the possibilities offered by an interactive multimedia system.
The Casino Luxembourg has found a new vocation: it no longer provides entertainment for the local bourgeoisie, but now exhibits contemporary artistic creation in all its forms. Exhibitions and round tables are now on the programme of Casino Luxembourg.
Laid out in an old house dating from 1725, this museum exhibits farm implements, household utensils and period furniture, giving a faithful image of the life of our ancestors and of the cultural development of the Ardennes from the 17th century until the appearance locally of the tractor in the 1950s.
Closed in 2011 because of renovation works.
"The Family of Man" - The biggest photographic exhibition of all time was created by Edward Steichen (American photographer and curator with Luxembourgish origins) and opened in 1955 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (Moma). This major exhibition wants to encourage through the use of the universal language of photography, the understanding between the people. Among 4 million entries, Steichen chose 503 photographs of 273 artists and amateur photographers coming from 68 countries. Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Dorothea Lange, Robert Doisneau, August Sander, ... All together they compose THE FAMILY OF MAN.
The exhibition is divided into 37 subjects, about love, belief in humanity, birth, work, family, war and peace ... presented in an impressive composition. The exhibition was a tremendous success, and has traveled the world in the 50s and 60s. Since 1994, THE FAMILY OF MAN exhibition can be seen permanently in the Castle in Clervaux and was taken in the UNESCO memory of the world program.
Special attention finds the sheet metal toy collection.

Exhibited are uniforms and weapons that were used during this battle.On the 9th September 1944 the American troops liberated Pétange, on September 10th the capital Luxembourg and finally the entire country. On the 16th December Hitler tried with a new attack on the Luxembourg Ardennes, to achieve the port of Antwerp, but the resistance of the American troops led to the huge battle of the Ardennes. On February 12th, Luxembourg finally became a free country again.
Reconstruction of the Battle of the Bulge 1944-45 around Diekirch with slide projections on 1:1 scale, which reflect the personal destiny of civilians and soldiers.
The National Museum of Military History brings back to memory, with support of supersized dioramas, the most significant events of the Battle of the Bulge 1944-1945.

The National Museum for Historical Vehicles also houses the Historical Museum of the Diekirch Brewery.
In the heart of Diekirch, the National Museum for Historical Vehicle has opened its doors on the 3rd April 2004 in the building of the historic automobile assembly factory of Jean Wagner.
The museum presents all periods of vehicle construction and associated technology from the 19th century until the 1970s. The concept of the museum is that collectors from the region can create a living exhibition of their vehicles and objects within the museum. The association offers a platform for showing the heritage of Luxembourg and the region, under the principal of an everchanging exhibition which will ensure a constant attraction to the museum.

Die Besichtigung der unterirdischen Stollen ist nur mit einem Führer gestattet (15 Personen pro Gruppe). Helme, Regenjacken und Stiefel werden an die Teilnehmer verteilt. Die Besichtigung des Museums, des Lehrpfads und der Galerien dauert ungefähr 3 Stunden.
1 mile away from Stolzenburg are the remnants of the former copper mine. Since more than 500 years, the copper-ore veins of “Klangbaach” attracted several investors to Stolzembourg, although it was far away from any industrial area these days. In 1856, 1882, 1901 and 1938 the digging was significant. The biggest problem was the water that regularly flooded the galleries. In recent years, a part of the underground galleries were made accessible for the interested public. 50 meters below ground, visitors learn about the complicated digging of the copper ores from the past.
Set up in the restored mansion where the famous French poet and novelist lived, this museum exhibits the painting, texts and personal possessions of the author, who spent several months there in 1871 during his exile.
