The "Henri Tudor Museum" in Rosport

To mark the 150th birthday of Henri Tudor in 2009, a new museum has opened in his honour in Rosport. located 7 km south of Echternach.

This museum serves two purposes: to recall the person and work of Henri Owen Tudor and to explain the procedure involved in storage batteries that are able to store electricity. As the museum is intended to be a living entity, visitors will be able to take an active part in the exhibition and learn about the discoveries and experiences surrounding Tudor and electricity while at the same finding out about the development of this form of energy and of storage batteries over time.

The son of John Thomas Tudor from England was born in Ferschweiler, Germany, in 1859. He studied in Brussels, where he gained his diploma in engineering in 1883. He then returned to settle in Rosport, where he discovered the process to perfect storage batteries. From 1884 onwards, Tudor developed the electric propulsion system for combine harvesters and in 1886 he registered the patent for his storage batteries.  That same year he set up a storage battery plant in Rosport. After the lighting in the streets of the town of Echternach had confirmed that his invention worked, the Germany company "Büsche & Müller" (AFA and Varta) acquired the patent to produce storage batteries on a large scale in central and eastern Europe.

Open from Wednesday through Sunday, daily from 2 to 6 PM.
